You're Not the Fuel - Don't be the bottle neck, find a system

There I was, crouched low, hands shielding a flickering ember, trying to coax a campfire to life on a foggy morning.
I had a few dry logs, but most of the kindling was damp. I could get a flame going for a moment or two, but only when I huffed and puffed into the coals. I’d back off to take a breath, and the fire would wither again. After several minutes of effort, frustration started to build. My energy was limited. My breath was short. I was doing everything I could, but the fire wasn’t catching.
Then it hit me. I had my DEWALT Compact Jobsite Blower in the shed.
I grabbed it, clicked the switch, and aimed the nozzle at the embers. In seconds, the fire exploded to life, roaring with energy. Even the damp wood ignited. The problem wasn’t the wood. The problem wasn’t the conditions. The problem was that I was the bottleneck.
How This Applies to Business
As business owners, we do this all the time. We are the breath — huffing and puffing, trying to keep the flame alive. We're the ones holding the vision, doing the tasks, managing the team, tracking the progress, putting out the fires. But there’s only so much air we can give before we burn out.
We think: “If I just try harder, I’ll get it going.” But the truth is, sometimes more effort isn’t the answer — better systems are.
Why Systems Matter
If you want to build something that lasts, something that grows, something that spreads heat and light beyond yourself — you need a system that feeds the fire for you. That’s what the blow torch was. It wasn’t more energy from me. It was a consistent, powerful system designed to deliver air where it was needed — automatically.
In your business, that system might look like:
✅ Automated task tracking
✅ Streamlined customer follow-up
✅ Digital project dashboards
✅ A custom app that handles your daily operations
Devine Insight for Sustainable Growth
This idea of working smarter, not harder — of relying on systems and delegation rather than sheer personal effort — isn't just business wisdom; it's also biblical.
In Exodus 18:17–23, Moses is overwhelmed with leading the people of Israel alone. His father-in-law Jethro wisely tells him:
“What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.” (Exodus 18:17–18, NIV)
Jethro then advises Moses to delegate responsibilities and put a system in place — appointing trustworthy leaders over groups of people so Moses only handles the most difficult cases. This is one of the Bible's earliest examples of leadership through systems and delegation.
Likewise, Proverbs 24:27 teaches preparation and planning before building:
“Put your outdoor work in order and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.” (Proverbs 24:27, NIV)
Planning and preparation — building systems — make growth sustainable.
The truth is, God never meant for us to carry every burden alone. Whether it’s leading people or running a business, He invites us to build wisely and steward well — with structure, support, and trust.
